Great lakes that you must travel to:
The US is a beautiful country. It is vast, has a diverse landscape and features a rich culture. The Great Lakes region of the United States is one of its most enchanting areas. It is located in the heartland of North America, and it features five freshwater lakes which are amongst the largest lakes in the world, if measured by volume.
Besides being a natural wonder, these lakes also have cultural significance as they form part of the border between Canada and the United States. Additionally, this region has a warm climate and many beautiful beaches, which makes it an ideal summer vacation spot. Here are some of the most popular places to visit around this region:
1) Mackinac Island: This island is located in the state of Michigan, and it is surrounded by Lake Huron on three sides. In fact, it has been called “the gem of the Huron” by tourists because of its beauty. One of the most attractive features of this island is that there are no motor vehicles allowed here. Even cars are not permitted on this island; instead tourists can use bikes and horses to move around. It has also played an important role in American history as two battles were fought here during the War of 1812.

The lake is part of the Lake Michigan–Huron system, and along with Lake Huron, it is one of the two primary lakes feeding the St. Clair River, which in turn flows into Lake St. Clair and then ultimately the St. Lawrence River (which drains into the Gulf of St. Lawrence).
The surface of Lake Michigan is 594 feet (181 m) above sea level.
