Top 3 Trains in the World

Rail travel is a passion of mine. I have been riding trains since I was a kid, and as an adult I have taken trips all over the world to ride different trains. There are some people who like to ride motorcycles or drive cars. Me? Give me a train any day!

In this blog, I want to share with you some of my favorite rides and tell you why they are so special. If you are looking for great places to go on vacations or just want to try something new on your next weekend trip, check out these top 3 trains in the world:

1. The Flam Railway (Flamsbana) – Norway

2. The Tren Crucero – Ecuador

3. The Ghan – Australia

Let me share some of my favorite train rides. As a child growing up in Cologne, Germany, I was always fascinated by trains. I still remember the first time I took the train to Berlin and Paris.

My top 3 trains of all times:

1. The Trans-Siberian Railway

2. The Train to Venice

3. The Intercity Express (ICE)

The Trans-Siberian Railway is the longest railway line in the world at 9,289 km (5,772 miles). It connects Moscow with Vladivostok and passes through Russia, Mongolia and China. It takes about 7 days to complete the full journey from Moscow to Vladivostok. But there are shorter options as well, for example 1 day from Moscow to Irkutsk or 2 days from Moscow to Beijing.

The Train to Venice is one of my favorite train journeys in Europe. Leaving from Cologne Central Station on a Friday evening with Intercity Express (ICE), it takes about 4 hours to reach Munich Central Station where you change trains and take the overnight train to Venice in Italy. In just under 15 hours you arrive at your destination early on Saturday morning – ready for a weekend in Venice!

The Intercity Express, or ICE is a high speed

The world’s most famous train line is the Trans-Siberian Railway, which runs across Russia between Moscow and Vladivostok. It may not be the most glamorous railway in the world – and it’s certainly not the most comfortable – but it remains one of the world’s great travel experiences.

We recently took the train from St Petersburg to Moscow, covering 704 miles in just over 12 hours. That’s a long time on a train, but there was plenty to see along the way: dense forest, open fields, small towns and villages, and even an area of radioactive contamination. There were also some very typical Russian moments: people drinking beer at six o’clock in the morning; people selling live pigeons on board; children playing with toy guns.

The Trans-Siberian Railway is actually a network of four different railway lines, all running roughly parallel to each other:

Trans-Siberian Railway (Транссибирская магистраль). Moscow to Vladivostok (8,986 km)

Trans-Mongolian Railway (Трансм
