Luxury Travel Terms Defined

Welcome to the Luxury Travel Terms Defined Blog, the best source on the web for the definition of luxury travel terms. On this blog we take complex concepts, phrases and vocabulary words that are relevant to luxury travel and break them down in simple terms.

Luxury travel is a leisurely, comfortable and elegant style of traveling. It allows the traveler to relax and focus on the destination without having to worry about the small details. Luxury travel can include high-end hotels, first class air travel and private beach resort vacations.

Let’s face it; luxury travel is not for everyone. It’s for those who want to experience life in style, and enjoy every moment of their vacation. And as you will learn from this site, there are many ways to define luxury travel terms.

We get it. You love to travel. You’re a jet-setter, a globetrotter and you’ve been known to take your passport to bed with you so that you can watch the pages flip by in your sleep. But, even if you’re a frequent traveler, there are some terms that are rarely used in everyday life that could keep you from booking the best trips possible.

That’s why we’ve created the following list of luxury travel terms defined to ensure you know exactly what to look for when planning an upcoming trip. From all-inclusive resorts to off-the-beaten-path destinations, these terms will help guide you towards the vacation of your dreams.

Luxury travel is a term that can be applied to a broad range of travel services. Luxury Travel Advisor and our sister publication, Quest Magazine, have teamed up to create this blog to define some of the most commonly used terms in luxury travel.

Affluent travelers are constantly seeking new experiences and destinations. Whether they are avid skiers or divers, or love to explore historic cities, there is something for everyone in the world of luxury travel. Our goal with this blog is to help you better serve your clients by defining some common terms that you’ll likely hear from them as they plan their next trip.

Luxury travel is on the rise. The increase in the number of millionaires and billionaires worldwide, who expect to be treated like royalty when they take a vacation, has led to an increased demand for luxury travel.

But what exactly is luxury travel? What defines it as luxurious? Is it the places you go? The activities you do? Or is it the accommodation you choose and how much money you pay for it?

For those who don’t usually travel in style, luxury travel can seem confusing. When all you’ve ever known are budget vacations, anything that costs more than $100 per night seems like a lot of money. How can hotels charge so much for rooms? Why would anyone spend $10,000 on a weekend away from home? What makes luxury travel worth the money?

The answer lies in understanding what luxury means to different people. To some it’s about enjoying VIP treatment, being waited on hand and foot and feeling like royalty. To others it’s about getting back to nature, living in comfort and connecting with their surroundings.

Luxury travel is a niche. Not only that, but it’s a niche within a niche. As a luxury travel agent, I deal with people who have the means to travel luxuriously, but not necessarily the knowledge about how to do so.

Just last week I had a client who was confused about the difference between first class and business class international flights. He had never flown either, but because he was in a hurry to get his tickets booked for an upcoming trip, he assumed that first class would be just fine. After all, “first” is better than “business” right?

Not quite. Some of the terms used in the luxury travel world can be confusing or misleading if you don’t know any better. Since I often get questions from clients about what they should expect when they are spending top dollar on their next trip, I thought I’d put together some of the most frequently asked questions along with my answers.
