A Day in the Life of a Narwhal:

A new infographic looking at how much time the average person spends going about their daily routine.

Humans, we’re pretty good at a lot of things. But when it comes to the number of unique ways we can get around, we pale in comparison to some of the other critters on this planet.

This infographic takes a look at how much time the average person spends going about their daily routine.

We have a tendency to think of “the average person” as if he or she is just like us. But perhaps the most surprising thing about this infographic is how much time we spend doing things that the majority of people don’t do at all.

The most obvious example is work. If you are an American reading this, you probably spend about 8 hours a day working (or commuting). But the average American only works 4 hours a day. And, since the average American sleeps 8 hours and watches TV for 3, that still leaves 7 hours unaccounted for: what are they doing?

The biggest chunk of their time is devoted to personal care which I assume means sleeping with makeup on and putting hair gel in their eyebrows. But even after you factor that in, it’s clear “the average person” spends a lot more time watching TV than you do.

Every day, Americans spend an average of 1.5 hours commuting between work and home. That equates to 250 hours per year, or 10 full days of your life spent on the road.

This infographic shows how much time is spent doing daily activities.

A day in the life of an average person is filled with a variety of activities. From the time you wake up in the morning until the time you go to bed at night, there are things that have to get done. The infographic below gives a snapshot of your average day.

Did you know that the average U.S. adult spends 55 minutes a day doing household activities? And did you know that it isn’t unusual for women to spend twice as long as men on household chores?

Since 2000, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has been collecting data on leisure and personal care habits in America. The chart below shows how much time people spend a day on these tasks, which include watching TV, sleeping, eating and drinking, playing sports and exercising and other activities.
